Eugenia Mello is a Brooklyn based award-winning illustrator, art director, and author from Buenos Aires, Argentina. She draws inspiration from the sounds and textures of her childhood travels throughout Latin America. Her illustrations, infused with motion and music, burst forth with vibrant colors and dynamic compositions, radiating vitality and joy.
Eugenia's ability to translate rhythm into visuals has garnered recognition from prestigious institutions, including the Silver Cube from the 2020 Art Directors Club of New York, the Silver Medal in the Editorial Category at the Society of Illustrators 62, and the Gold Medal in the Institutional Category at the Society of Illustrators 60 Competition. She has also received awards from the Society of Illustrators in LA, Communication Arts Illustration Annual's Best-In-Show award, and a bronze medal from the 3x3 Illustration competition.
Since receiving an MFA in Illustration as Visual Essay from the School of Visual Arts in NYC, she has collaborated with leading industry giants such as Apple, Nike, MTV, Patagonia, The New York Times, Etsy, and the Guggenheim Museum. Eugenia has also worked with organizations like Planned Parenthood, Pathfinder International, and the Immigration Area of the Mayor's Office of New York. As a storyteller, she has also authored and Illustrated a picture book ('Moving,' published in 2020) and illustrated 3 other published titles up to date.
Eugenia is actively involved as a Board Member at the prestigious Society of Illustrators in NY. In 2022, she had the honor of being appointed Chair of the 65th Annual Competition at the Society of Illustrators, and in 2023 she was distinguished as President of the Jury in the Illustration category at the 103rd Art Director’s Club Awards. She has also participated as a jury member in various Illustration competitions, including the Latin-American Design Awards (LAD Awards) and the Hiii Illustration International Illustration Competition.
As an educator, Eugenia is a professor at the School of Visual Arts (NYC), teaching narrative illustration in the BFA Illustration Program, and at the BFA Design Program at CUNY Queens College imparting Illustration Principles.
Beyond her achievements and recognitions, Eugenia Mello's art remains a profound reflection of her Latin-American roots, as well as a quest to visually represent diverse, strong female and minority-led communities and their collective experiences as an effort to foster and nurture belonging.
